The Pavilion in the Borromeo Gardens
This project involves the restoration of a historic garden gazebo and the conversion of a 1950s workshop annex into new restrooms for visitors to the hospital grounds. The design deliberately plays on the contrast between the historic structure and the abstractly conceived annex. The main facade of the restrooms consists of two panels made of perforated aluminum cassettes. One of the facade panels is moved aside during operating hours to allow entry into the building. The perforations in the panels loosely reference the ornamental decoration of the carved gable on the historic gazebo.
